Hillary Clinton took the stage at the New Yorker Hotel Wednesday to deliver a succinct, powerful and incredibly gracious concession speech.
Acknowledging that she had lost the presidential race to Donald Trump, she used her words to thank her team, insist that the country follow a peaceful transition of power, and urge her followers to continue fighting for their values.
The highest glass ceiling has not yet been smashed but it will one day soon, she insisted, and she encouraged young girls watching to believe in themselves.
SEE ALSO: People are blacking out their Twitter profiles to protest a Trump presidency"This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for and I'm sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country," she said. "But I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together -- this vast, diverse, creative, unruly, energized campaign."
"This is painful and it will be for a long time, but I want you to remember this," she went on. "Our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love and about building an America that's hopeful, inclusive and big-hearted. We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought, but I still believe in America and I always will."
The country owes Donald Trump an open mind and the chance to lead, she said, reminding the audience that "our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power."
"To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful."
"The American dream is big enough for everyone, for people of all races and religions, for men and women, for immigrants, for LGBT people, for people with disabilities, for everyone," she added.
Clinton went on to thank her running mate, Tim Kaine, her family, and the Obamas as well as her campaign staff.
The highest and hardest glass ceiling remains intact, she said, but will not remain intact forever.
"To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams."

And, of course, Pantsuit Nation and other Facebook sites got a mention, with Clinton urging members to come out from behind the keyboard and continue fighting for what they believe in.
With a quote from scripture and a "God bless the United States of America," she finished, to thunderous applause.
