Whether bright red, pixie cut or in a doobie wrap, Rihanna's fearless and unexpected hair styles have always caught the world's attention.
In a selfie posted to Instagram, the Barbadian singer kicks it up another level and shows off her latest 'do — extra long dreadlocks. Iconic.

The traditionally black hairstyle has become a hotbed for politics. In September, a federal court ruled that banning an employee because of dreadlocks does not fall under racial discrimination. Dreadlocks, along with box braids and cornrows, have also dominated cultural appropriation conversations, particularly in the fashion world. Marc Jacobs came under fire during the 2016 New York Fashion Week for including rainbow wool dreads on white models.
But Rihanna can and knows how to rock them just right. "Buffalo $oldier," she captioned the selfie, in reference to a track by Bob Marley, arguably the most legendary dreaded singer.
This week, Mindy Kaling revealed to Stephen Colbert that the cast of Oceans 8, which includes Rihanna, will begin filming in New York City this month. Perhaps this is a sneak peek of RiRi's upcoming character, but regardless of why she switched up her hairstyles, she is rocking the dreads like nobody's business and we are here all for it.
